The How2rap Point-System – Where Words Rhyme

Where Words Rhyme

The point-system is probably the most amazing tool for anyone learning to rap – Simply because it gives you a grid so to speak for your rhymes.

If you read the article “How Different Points Can Make Different Lines” you have some more insight on how you can incorporate bar combinations into your lyrics.  Not only can the point-system be used for line combos but you can also use it to determine where you want your lines to rhyme.

You may have a rhyme scheme that ends on point 8 for instance like 2-8.  So a four bar rhyme ending on point 8 would look like:

Bar 1                   2-8
Bar 2                   2-8
Bar 3                   2-8
Bar 4                   2-8

Now with that being said you can choose to make your words rhyme any where.  Of course the standard position would be to have your words Rhyme on points 8

Let’s explore some other spots you can place your rhyming words.  Keep in mind it will be up to you to determine the best place to fit your rhyme words (make sure you like how it sounds and that they are not rushed or off point/beat). Let’s use points 2-8 to get you rolling in the right direction.

So in a 2-8 bar some great places to stick your rhyming words would be points 4 and 8 on some lines and just 8 on others.  The beauty of it all is you can make points 3 rhyme with 8 or 5 and 8 and so forth.  It’s really up to you the artist where you want your lines to rhyme.

For example one scenario with a 2-8 line scheme may look like this: () Represents point with rhyming word

Bar 1                   2  3 (4) 5 6 7 (8)
Bar 2                   2  3  4  5 6 7 (8)
Bar 3                   2  3 (4) 5 6 7 (8)
Bar 4                   2  3  4  5 6 7 (8)

The above example shows you rhyming on points 8 and adding a rhyming word on points 4 on bars 1 and 3.

This is just one way you can use the point-system to find where words rhyme.  Practice using different point combinations in your verses and adding rhyming words to certain points – It will be a great asset to your arsenal.  For practice check out the examples above and construct some of your verses the same way.

Hope this helps.  If you have any questions leave a comment.  Good luck
